This position is located in the Groups and Accountability Section in the Special Procedures Branch of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva. Geneva is classified as a hardship “H” duty station and family duty station. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Groups and Accountability Section under the general guidance of the Chief of the Special Procedures Branch.

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Plans, coordinates, monitors and evaluates activities relating to the thematic special procedures of the Human Rights Council, in particular the servicing of a thematic Working Group (including servicing three annual meetings, coordinating and conducting field missions, further developing methods of work, processing individual cases; and preparing recommendations for decisions by the Working Group);
• Drafts relevant materials relating to the work of the Working Group, including reports for the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly, communications to Governments and other stakeholders, joint communications with other mandate holders, internal reporting or information and briefing notes.
• Ensures up-to-date information regarding substantive matters in the field of human rights and makes recommendations on actions to take;
• Liaises with other sectors of the UN, other international organizations and governments on coordination and policy matters; briefs representatives and provides, as appropriate suggestions and recommendations;
• Serves as team leader for the Working Group with responsibility for carrying out, in consultation with the Chief of the Section, work coordination and administrative functions relating to the staff, planning and budget;
• Trains and supervises new/junior staff;
• Performs other related duties as required.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in law, human rights, political science or international relations, or other related disciplines. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Required experience:
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, international relations, law or related area at the international level.
- Experience in legal research, analysis and writing.
- Experience in supervising and managing a team.

Desired experience:
- Experience working with UN human rights standards, instruments and mechanisms.

语言要求

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post advertised, Fluency in English and another official United Nations language is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable.
