This position is located in the Spanish Translation Section, Languages Service, Division of Conference Management, United Nations Office at Geneva.

工作内容

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Revises translations covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations.
• Translates, mostly without revision, texts covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, particularly those subjects requiring experience and recognized proficiency.
• Developes new terminology for use where none exists in the target language.
• Carries out linguistic research contributing to terminological bulletins and glossaries, technical vocabularies and related reference tools.
• Counsels and assists translators and briefs them on the procedures and practices of the Section, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as required.
• Maintains a certain speed and volume output, due account being taken of the complexity of the text received for revision.
• Meets deadlines established for the production of documents.
• Supervises the work of small groups of translators.
• Performs other related duties as required.

专业要求

A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers/Proofreaders/Production Editors in Spanish or any United Nations language competitive examination in Spanish held before 2017.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing is required. Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is required.
Of the aforementioned experience, three (3) years of experience working within a multilingual setting is desirable. At least three years of translation experience in the UN is desirable, as well as proven experience in self-revision.

Fluency in Spanish, which must be the candidate's main language, is required. Spanish translators must also have knowledge of English and, preferably, of one other official languages, as tested by the relevant United Nations language competitive examination.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
