This position is located in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Geneva. The incumbent will be under the overall supervision of the Spokesperson/Chief of the Media and Public Positioning Section.

Within delegated authority, the Public Information Officer will be carrying out the following duties:

- Under the supervision of the Spokesperson, prepares and disseminates diverse information products; research, draft and/or edit information materials (press releases, statements, press briefing material, speeches, opinion pieces); and helps maintain the content of media-related OHCHR website pages.

- Performs general media liaison duties as part of the Media Section team, keeping the media informed of the activities of the Office, including by:

a) Preparing regular news briefings, giving or arranging interviews, and formulating and delivering answers to questions from all types of media, including when accompanying the High Commissioner on missions. Beside English, these duties may possibly be undertaken in French or Arabic.

b) Proactively expanding and maintaining OHCHR's network of media contacts.

c) In the absence of the Spokesperson and Deputy Spokesperson, acting as Officer-in-Charge of the Media Section, taking charge of all public statements on behalf of the Office, advising and assisting the High Commissioner, Senior Management Team, and other staff in all interactions with the media.

- Develops and implements media strategies for OHCHR, including by working closely with senior management and other staff, to strategise on how the activities of the Office and its priorities are best presented to the media and the international community at large.

- Develops strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support and maximize impact of activities. Represents OHCHR in meetings and conferences, fulfils speaking engagements and makes presentations to groups on OHCHR's activities.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, public relations or other related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

工作经验

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in journalism, communications or public relations in large multicultural institutions, including three years in liaising with, or working for, international media, is required. Experience as a Spokesperson is desirable. Experience in writing media articles on human rights related issues is desirable. Two years of experience within the United Nations Common System is desirable

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the position advertised fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is desirable. Fluency in Arabic is also desirable.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
