These positions are located in the Arabic Section of the Interpretation Service, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) at Headquarters. Under the general supervision of the Chief of Interpretation Service these positions provide interpretation for all inter-governmental and other meetings at the United Nations.

工作内容

Within delegated authority, the Interpreters will be responsible for the following duties:
Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies. Arabic interpreters provide interpretation into Arabic of speeches given in English or French and interpretation into English or French – as appropriate – of speeches given in Arabic.
Routinely covers sensitive meetings.
Routinely functions as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting.
May instruct and advise interpreter trainees.

专业要求

A first level degree from a university. Candidates for this position must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for Arabic Interpreters.

工作经验

A minimum of five years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required.

语言要求

A perfect command of Arabic, normally expected to be the candidate’s main language. Candidates for these posts must also possess an excellent command of English or French, as required.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
