Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.

This position is located in the Intergovernmental Affairs and Outreach Section of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) New York Office. New York is classified as a "H" family duty station. The incumbent reports to the Chief of section/unit.

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
• Follows, supports and reports on the activities and meetings of intergovernmental bodies at the United Nations in New York, as well as human rights treaty-established bodies and extra-conventional mechanisms and special procedures in New York and Geneva.
• Prepares relevant human rights parts of reports for the General Assembly, as well as briefing notes and talking points for the Assistant Secretary-General and other senior officials.
• Organizes and conducts briefings to Briefs Government and NGO representatives, including on human rights bodies and mechanisms, and provides, as appropriate, suggestions and recommendations.
• Works with partners throughout the UN system, other parts of the UN Secretariat, UN agencies and NGOs, to integrate human rights, including their gender dimensions, into their programmes.
• Makes contact with other sectors of the UN, other international organizations and governments on coordination and policy matters in the field of human rights.
• Ensures an up-to-date and full flow of information regarding substantive matters in the field of human rights and makes recommendations on actions to take.
• Helps Contributes to and design and implement the Office's Work Plan and monitor its implementation in relation to her/his substantive duties.
• Supports the Chief of Section in relation to coordination and administrative functions, including planning, personnel and budget.
• Trains, guides and supervises new/junior staff.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Advanced University degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in human rights, law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. A first level university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human rights at the international level including on intergovernmental affairs at international or regional level.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience of working in the field of human rights, including with national authorities and civil society.
- Experience in the protection and promotion of human rights.
- Experience in working with the international human rights system and mechanisms.
语言要求
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
