This position is located in the Indigenous Peoples and Minorities Section, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. Geneva is classified as an “H” duty station and a family duty station. The incumbent reports to the Chief of section.

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Plans and coordinates support to the country engagement, research and other activities pursued by the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of indigenous Peoples.
• Meets regularly with the team to plan projects and review activities.
• Works with UN, indigenous representatives and non-governmental partners to advance the integration of indigenous peoples’ rights, including their gender dimensions, in the relevant work programmes.
• Ensures up-to-date information regarding substantive matters in the field of indigenous peoples' rights and makes recommendations on actions to take.
• Makes contact with other sectors of the UN, other international organizations and governments on coordination and policy matters; brief representatives and provides, as appropriate suggestions and recommendations.
• Assists authorities to develop and implement training, dialogues and other activities in the field of indigenous peoples’ rights, with attention to gender perspectives.
• Serves as the team leader with responsibility for carrying out, in consultation with the Chief of the Section, work coordination and administrative functions pertaining to the activities of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
• Trains and supervises new/junior staff.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area at the international and national level.
- Experience in report writing.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working on the rights of indigenous peoples.
- Experience in designing and delivering capacity building activities.
- Experience related to international human rights mechanisms.
- Experience in human rights advocacy and advisory services.

语言要求

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post advertised, fluency in English and knowledge of French or Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
